Dahi Papdi Chaat

Dahi papdi Chat is a popular street food in Nepal and India. It is commonly eaten as an appetizer as well.

  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup semolina flour
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 TBSP ghee
  • 120ml water
  • 10-12 papdi
  • 1 small boiled and cut potato
  • 1/2 finely diced red onion
  • 1/3 cup tamrind/dates sauce
  • 1/4 cup pudina sauce
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/3 cup Nylon Sev
  • pinch of black salt, chaat masala, & cumin powder

  1. Combine wheat flour, semolina, ajwain, salt, and ghee together.
  2. Slowly add water and make a dough and cover for 30 minutes.
  3. Then make 3 equal parts of the dough and using a rolling pin roll out to make a thin sheet. Remember, more thinner the better.
  4. Now use a fork and poke holes all over the sheet. Reason to poke holes is to prevent it from puffing.
  5. Now using a round cookie cutter or any medium sized round bottle cap, cut the sheets and take the cut part out in a plate.
  6. Now heat oil in a flat pan in low-medium heat. Remember the oil temperature should not be high.
  7. Now drop the round cut sheets into the oil and fry.
  8. You should fry this for about 5-7 minutes flipping multiple times. If the temperature is high, the sheets will get fried fast and will get soggy after it cools down.
  9. The goal is to fry them in low heat and making it light brown in 5-7 minutes.
  10. Once the papdis are ready, let it cool down.
  1. Place about 10 papdis in a plate.
  2. Then top it with potato and onion.
  3. Now spread couple of spoon of pudina & tamdrind chutney.
  4. Then add  whisked Yogurt.
  5. Now sprinkle pinch of black salt, chaat masala, & cumin powder.
  6. At last top it off with Nylon Sev all over.
